Final Destination

I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”—Revelation 21:1-3

God has given us a glimpse in the last pages of scripture of our final destination. It is a literal city coming down from heaven that will be suspended over the earth for eternity. The heavens and earth will have been renovated or purged with fire and God’s purpose for man will be just as it was initiated in the Garden of Eden. God’s plan of restoration for His creation will have come full circle. For all the gloom and doom prognosticators out there, the earth will not be destroyed, the human race will not be extinct, but God’s purpose to restore his creation back to Himself will be fulfilled. Our final destination is not heaven but the city of the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven. Our final destination will exceed what we can imagine or think. In the midst of the city the tree of life is restored for all to partake of. There is a river that flows from the throne!

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.—Revelation 22:1-3

What a picture of God’s goodness toward us! He wants to dwell with us! John’s vision of the heavenly city is our final destination. Let’s bring as many as we can to that place! The conclusion of the book of Revelation is found in these words…

Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.—Revelation 22:12,17

Jesus is coming soon! Share the good news! Jesus came to give us life more abundant! A river of His righteousness, peace, and joy that never runs dry!
