But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.—James 1:22-24
God’s blessing is upon every person who has accepted Jesus into their lives as Lord. However there are many believers who are not experiencing the blessing for the simple reason that they are not doing one or two things. We need to be hearing and we need to be doing.
Faith comes by hearing God’s Word on a continual basis. Hearing the Word preached, hearing yourself confess the Word over yourself, hearing the Word coming out of your mouth will build faith in your heart to walk in the blessing. Then of course there must be corresponding action to the faith that is rising up in your heart. When faith rises it will inspire you to do something, one of the first things faith will inspire you to do is to give God praise for what He has promised, then simply act like the Word is true no matter how you feel or what the circumstance.
The blessing becomes a reality after we hear and do. I spend more time admonishing than teaching. Admonishing means to encourage a person to act upon what they know. We have such a plentiful supply of teaching and preaching resources in America and Christians have lots of knowledge but that does not guarantee we will see greater blessings. It is when we become a people of action! Be a doer of the Word and you will walk in all of the blessing!
