Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.—Hebrews 4:14-16
Jesus has been exalted to the highest place of authority in the universe. His role today is to represent us to the Father as sons of God. When we pray to the Father in Jesus’ name we are tapping into the current day ministry of Jesus. He is our high priest. He is a high priest that has tasted the human experience so He knows how to show compassion to us when we find ourselves tempted within or under pressure from without. He knows how to make a way for you no matter what the situation.
We are instructed to do two things here. First we are to hold fast to our confession. That means we must keep our heart full of God’s promises and we should be speaking of them continually over ourselves, in thanksgiving to God and to the mountains that stand before us. Secondly, we are to come boldly to the Father because Jesus is there to represent us and the Father is wanting to show mercy and grace. He is a benevolent Father who is desiring to bless you more than you want to be blessed!
Every promise is a result of God’s mercy toward us. We simply don’t deserve it but we have a friend in high places , Jesus, who paid the price for our sin that we might freely receive the Father’s mercy! God’s grace, his power that exceeds our ability is available to us as well! Grace is the Spirit of God working and producing in us what we can’t do for ourselves. It is also working for us what we can’t procure for ourselves—special favor! We have a friend in high places. He is our big brother, the firstborn of many brethren the scripture says. Thank God for Jesus! You have a friend in high places! Stand on his word and be bold!
