Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus—Philippians 2:3-5
What makes a great team, a great small group, a great family, a great church, a great company? It’s the attitude and disposition people have toward each other. When you work and do life with others who genuinely have your back covered it is a rewarding experience. Putting others above yourself will put you in a position of favor and promotion.
These days you hear the public complain a lot about politicians but the very same people who complain about politicians are politicking for themselves. The word politician from the Greek means to procure favor for one self. As Christians we are not trying to make a way for ourselves by manipulating others or showing special favor to others to get something for ourselves. No, that can get messy. “If you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours” is not Christ’s way.
We are to put on the mind of Christ which means put on the attitude that you are going to put everyone ahead of yourself. That is what Jesus did for all of humanity in laying himself down for a humiliating public execution for our sins. God the Father has exalted him to the highest place of authority in the universe. This principle is a foundation for your success, put others first and let God be the one who promotes you! I heard a minister once say, “your attitude determines your altitude!” Put others first and watch what God does for you!
