Drinking! #yearintheword

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.—Ephesians 5:17-20

Dehydration is not good for you. Moderate symptoms of dehydration on the human body, according to LiveStrong, include feeling fatigued, lethargic, sleepy, muscle weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness to name a few. We are told to drink 8 glasses of water a day especially when demands are placed on the body. In the summer time I am much more careful about staying hydrated and I have learned to read the symptoms in my own body when I am not drinking good ole H2O!

The same can be said for our spiritual man. He needs and wants to drink from the Spirit every day. If we don’t drink from the Spirit of God we become spiritually weak, lethargic and sleepy. The best way to stay spiritually alert and in tune with the voice of God in our lives is to drink continually every day from the Spirit of God. How does one drink? Through worship, praise, singing songs to The Lord, praying and singing in the spirit or in other tongues. This is a habit that keeps you spiritually hydrated, strong, vibrant and alert to the Spirit of God.

Just as there are many substitutes to water—juice, soda, coffee, alcohol and all these fancy designer drinks today—there are many substitutes for the Spirit filled life we are called to live. Sports, entertainment, social activities, hobbies or other pursuits. I am not saying they are wrong to have but when they become a substitute for our prayer lives it costs us dearly. Make sure you are drinking and staying filled with the Spirit of God everyday. Don’t get so wrapped up in natural things that you, forsake the spiritual and waste time outside of the will of God. Keep drinking from the Spirit of God in your life!
