Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth–1 Corinthians 5:7-8
The Apostle Paul uses Jewish terminology to convey an important truth to us. The feasts of Israel were a type and shadow of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Christ is our unleavened bread, meaning His life was sinless perfection. That is why He could redeem us from sin and destruction as the Passover lamb. Leaven represents sin because when it is introduced into the bread it makes it rise. So sexual sin when introduced into the believers’ life spreads and affects every relationship—God, oneself, spouse, children, peers, co-workers, you name it.
You will find judgments upon societies in the Bible because of sexual sin that was not dealt with but led to a downward spiral of depravity like we see today. The spread of pornography is destroying marriages and families and holding single people back from fruitful and meaningful relationships. Why was this young man excommunicated from the Corinthian church in this Chapter? Because the nature of this sin was so corrosive and destructive God did not want it to spread and affect other believers.
The lesson learned is to keep the leaven out. It really is not that difficult. To keep yourself pure simply maintain a daily diet of the Word and fellowship with the Holy Spirit who is your comforter. Sex is a wonderful gift from God to a husband and wife who have made a life time commitment to each other. Secular surveys I have read show monogamous marriages are the most sexually satisfied people. Lets show the world their is a better way!
