When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21, 22 NKJV)
This story paints a beautiful picture of what our prayer life should be. Here we see Jesus in the river praying under an open heaven. He is being affirmed by the Father and empowered by the Spirit. I remember visiting the Kangamangus River in the White Mountains of New Hampshire on a hot summer day. You could just go out into the deeper parts and let the current take you downstream. It was effortless! That is what happenns when you cultivate a spirit of prayer in your life. You step into the flow of God’s Spirit for your life and without effort on your part you find yourself revived, refreshed and empowered!
You also begin to develop your heart to hear the Father’s voice. His voice is one of affirmation. I think to many Christians are not familiar with the Fathers voice because they do not take time to pray. I like to pray with my Bible open because I always find that a scripture or passage will come to mind that brings edification, direction and confidence. That is my Father affirming me!
We are His sons with whom He takes pleasure in. Remember that you live under an open heaven and you can step into God’s presence and power anytime you like! Take time to listen to the Father’s voice, you will always be affirmed and encouraged because He takes pleasure in you!
