Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. (Colossians 4:2-6 NKJV)
Do you have a desire to share Christ with those in your community? How do you get an audience with those who are lost? The only way I know how is through prayer. Prayer opens doors of opportunity for you to share the Gospel. When you pray for the Lord to use you in His harvest field the Holy Spirit will orchestrate events and lead you through open doors to tell the Gospel story!
Prayer also prepares you to walk through the open door with wisdom and boldness. Two key elements to an effective witness is wisdom—knowing what to say and how to say it, and boldness—saying it in a way that is confident and persuasive. In additon to that, when you pray in other tongues you should expect supernatural power to flow as you share Christ. Speaking in tongues is the doorway to manifestations of prophecy, words of knowledge, and gifts of healings and so forth. Try praying in tongues for an hour or two and see what happens to you. Wisdom, boldness, and these manifestations will come as you share the Gospel with someone in need.
The Lord has a way of opening doors, doors of opportunity, doors of favor and even the doors of people’s hearts. The Angel told the church of Philidelphia that the Lord Jesus is the one “who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens.” When the Lord opens the door for you no one can shut it! We just need to be prayerful, sensitive to the promptings of His Spirit to know when there is an open door to walk through. Let Him direct you through those open doors to tell the story of His great love!
