That you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and long-suffering with joy—Colossians 1:9-11
The Apostle Paul’s request for the church reveals the intention of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit first wants to fill us with the knowledge of The Father’s will. Second, He wants to give us the strength to carry out the Father’s will. Obviously we have to give the Holy Spirit something to work with—we must spend time in the Word and prayer!
When we are filled with the knowledge of God’s will we are in a position to please The Lord and be fruitful in every relationship and endeavor. We also position ourselves to increase in the knowledge of God, meaning every time we are obedient to His will He will entrust us with more. Increase is a result of obeying God’s will. Remember, the Holy Spirit is your helper not your doer. Every time you act upon what the Holy Spirit shows you you qualify for more!
The Holy Spirit will strengthen you when you step out in obedience to God’s plan for your life. The sign of His strength is in the long suffering and patience He gives you. You will need long suffering when dealing with people because people can be a challenge and an obstacle to you fulfilling God’s will. You will also need patience or consistency under pressure because many time the circumstances will be an obstacle to you fulfilling God’s will as well. Both long suffering and patience comes with a supernatural joy that is independent of both people and circumstances. My prayer for you is that His joy may be yours in everything! His joy is our strength! Lets fulfill His will with joy in our hearts!
