But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter…
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.—Romans 7:6,18
Are you a perfectionist? Are you always comparing yourself to someone else? Do you fall short on making promises to yourself and to God that “I will never do that or say that again” only to fail and fall under condemnation? You can live your life two ways as a Christian, by the letter of the law or by the Spirit of God who dwells within.
God introduced the law to the Jewish people as a case study to the world to prove that everyone sins and everyone has a self centered nature and everyone needs a Savior to set them free. When we acknowledge our dependence upon Jesus then we open the door for the Spirit of God to move in our lives and accomplish what we can’t do for ourselves.
Freedom comes when we depend on the Holy Spirit to accomplish what we know is good and right in God’s sight. Freedom comes when we become initimate with Jesus, fill our hearts with His Word, and live from the inside out! The struggle between flesh and Spirit can be a difficult struggle if we rely on ourselves to measure up to God’s standards. But Jesus said, “my yoke is easy!” So learn to live from the inside out, after all who resides in you? Depend on Him, He’ll make it easy!
