This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer. Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire. (2 Thessalonians 1:5-7 WEB)
Ever since the church began on the day of Pentecost, Christians have experienced persecution of all kinds through out the world. The Apostle Paul is saying in this verse that Christian persecution is sure sign of a coming judgment. Satan is behind both anti-semitism and Christian persecution but his time is coming to an end. Revelation reveals that Christ will cast the devil into hell upon His return.
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:10, 11 NKJV)
We are engaged in a spiritual battle not with people but with the devil. He is defeated and under our feet! We have been given the Name of Jesus and the promises of God to fight the good fight of faith. It’s a good fight because we have already won. If you are going to be a witness to your world you first need to overcome it and not be conformed to it. The Apostle Peter encorages us….
And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. (1 Peter 3:14, 15 NKJV)
Don’t be ashamed of your testimony. There are many who have gone on before us and laid their lives down for Christ unashamedly. We are a part of that company, the company of the unashamed! Be ready to share with boldness the good news of God’s love and provision that is found in Jesus the soon and coming King!
