But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (1 Thessalonians 5:8, 9 NKJV)
To be sober is to be watchful and alert as to what God is doing in the earth, keeping your heart and mind anchored in the Word of God. Faith and love act as a breastplate of protection to your heart. When you fill your heart with God’s Word you experience a revelation of His love for you that causes your faith to rise mountain high and overcome every obstacle the enemy places in your life.
The supernatural hope of our Lord’s soon return acts as a helmet of protection to your mind. That promise should raise the level of your expectation to live for Him with a passion in your heart. It is a great comfort to know as we see signs of the great tribulation Jesus spoke of on the horizon that He will come to deliver us from that time of trouble. The same is true with any tests we face in this life, He is faithful to deliver us from the hour of temptation.
So be sure to keep your breastplate and helmet on! Stay immersed in His love, keep feeding your faith and keep the hope of His soon return on the forefront of your mind. I guarantee you will not become drunk with the cares and offenses of this life but you will be in a place of hearing and knowing just what the will of God is for your life!
