Cheerful Endurance

For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 NKJV)

The believers at Thessalonica had a bold witness for Jesus Christ. They did not keep their faith to themselves. To serve the living and true God is to embrace the great comission and go into your world and spread the good news. Jesus is waiting for us to complete what He started. Jesus is waiting for the harvest to come in and His church to be complete. We too are to waiting for something—His return! The word wait in verse 10 means cheerful endurance. We are running in a marathon that certainly requires endurance. Cheerful endurance is a result of keeping your eyes on Jesus with the hope of His soon return and keeping your hand on the Gospel plow! Don’t drop out of your race, go all the way and finish strong!
