Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.—1 Corinthians 9:24-25
I play to win don’t you? Do you compete against yourself to become better in a sport? Do you strive to become better at what God has entrusted you, that is your gifts and abilities? We need to apply this kind of thinking and attitude to our spiritual walk. We should strive to be the best that we can be for God. How do we do it? How can we be confident that we will obtain the gold at the finish line?
The key is imposing personal disciplines in our lives that will allow God’s grace to flow in our lives. There seems to be a misunderstanding about grace these days that it does not involve anything on our part, but it does! If we want grace, God’s power beyond our ability to flow in our lives then we must discipline ourselves and train ourselves to be the best!
So make a check list of your own daily disciplines. If you are consistent with them then you can be assured of a bright future! Take up the cross daily! Daily prayer, daily reading, daily confession, daily meditation, daily study, daily habits! Daily, Daily, Daily, Daily! Then you can expect to be crowned with gold at the finish line!
