I remember when I came to Christ on April 28, 1980 I got myself a little red NASB New Testament Bible that I carried around everywhere. I wrote in the front cover of that book, “Tom this is God speaking to you!” I just devoured that little book, it was so valuable to me as I read and discovered so many things that would change my life and destiny forever! Every believer should possess a working knowledge of the New Testament. It will do three things for you.
A working knowledge EQUIPS the believer with revelation to walk in the fulness of their calling.
Jesus said, Every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which brings forth out of his treasure things new and old. (Matthew 13:52)
A working knowledge ENABLES the believer to more fully cooperate with the Ministry of the Holy Spirit in their life.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)
A working knowledge EMPOWERS the believer to be an effective minister and ambassador.
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
So how does one approach the New Testament scriptures so that it can be a life changing experience?
- Recognize the scriptures contain power!—Hebrews 4:12
- Recognize the scriptures must be spiritually discerned!—1 Corinthians 2:13-15
- Recognize that understanding comes with maturity over time.—Hebrews 5:11-14
- Recognize that you must depend upon the author of the book, the Holy Spirit—1 John 2:20,27
