Then God calls upon Ezekiel a second time to prophesy again about his justice and mercy. First, judgment upon Israel was just and warranted because she turned away from God to worship idols and did not repent the first time. Second, God would again show mercy and bring restoration to Israel in the last days. (Ezekiel 33). God says, “I myself will shepherd Israel back into the land I promised Abraham.” (Ezekiel 34:11-31)
First, Ezekiel prophesies curses upon Mount Seir. Mount Seir represents Esau, Edom, Amalek, Ishmael, Ammon, Lot, Moab; which today represents Arabic peoples, Jordanians, Palestinians, and Saudi Arabia.—Ezekiel 35-36:7
Ezekiel prophesied judgement against Edom and these nations because they shed the blood of Israel and they sought to take possession of Israel’s land. (Ezekiel 36:1-7)
Today’s Middle East controversy has drawn Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria into conflict with Israel: Wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, 1982, 2006 and the mass murder of Israelis on October 7, 2024.
Second, Ezekiel prophesied blessings on the Mountains of Israel for its people. (Ezekiel 36:8-38). Where are the Mountains of Israel? The West Bank (Judea & Samaria) & Golan Heights. God attached an oath to 15 promises about His land. The land would become fertile again for the Jews to return (Ezekiel 36:7-36)
It is important to understand the roots of the Palestinian controversy. It begins with a history of ancient hatred going back to the story of Jacob (Israel) & Esau almost 4000 years ago in the book of Genesis.
Esau’s descendants the Edomites were also Israel’s enemies who would not let Israel pass through to the promise land when they came out of Egypt. (Deuteronomy 2:4-8,19; Numbers 20:14,18-21). God had already had given Esau’s descendants Mt. Seir as their own possession and not the Mountains of Israel. (Deuteronomy 2:4-12)
Ezekiel prophesied a re-gathering of Israel back into their land in the last days. (Ezekiel 37:1-21). The current population of Israel as of 2023 is about 10 million with only 20% being non-Jewish.
Ezekiel prophesied that when Israel is at rest in their promised land in the last days, the surrounding nations will awaken and rise up against her but God will intervene, deliver and restore His people. Here is a list of nations that Ezekiel identifies in Ezekiel 38:1-6,7.
Magog, Meshech, and Tubal and more. These are countries existed in Ezekiel’s day which is today the nation of Turkey. They have a leader named Gog. Who is Gog? The leader of Magog. Known in historical documents as an evil leader named as Gigas, Gogo, or Gugu. God calls him Gog, the ruler of Magog, Meshech, and Tubal. Here is the list…
- 1. Gog (prince or ruler) of Magog leads this coalition.
- 2. Again Magog, Gomer, Togarmah, Meshech, Tubal represents Turkey (According to all of the best, most scholarly Bible Atlas’s: Moody, Zondervan, Holman, and more).
- 3. Gomer is also related to the ancient Cimmerians who settled on the Eurasian steppes of Ukraine and Russia.
- 4. Persia is Iran. Persia changed its name to Iran in 1935.
- 5. Cush & Phut are Ethiopia and Lybia.
The invasion occurs when Israel is at rest. What does “at rest” mean? Israel is at rest when the nation ceases from it 2520 years of wanderings among the nations and comes back to its own land as a sovereign state (Ezekiel 38:8,11,14). Today as Israel dwells securely and confidently in its own land these nations will awaken and come together to attack. (Ezekiel 38:14).
Gog will lead the attack. The prophets of Israel fore-told of Gog under other names. The descriptions match the identity of this leader as the anti-Christ. Ezekiel 38:17 says,”Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?”
God then supernaturally rescues Israel from this coalition with global earthquakes causing ‘every wall to fall’, with ‘hailstone, fire and brimstone’. This is the same description of the trumpet and bowl judgments in the book of Revelations during the battle of Armageddon. (Ezekiel 38:17-23)
When Gog’s coalition is defeated and buried in the Valley of Hamon-gog then Israel and the nations will know and acknowledge the God of Israel. (Ezekiel 39:1-29).
Finally, Ezekiel receives a vision of a new temple in Jerusalem and when Jesus returns to set up the millennial Kingdom of God on Earth when Ezekiel 40-48)
