Here are four facts regarding the healing ministry of our Lord Jesus.
FACT #1: Healing is for all! Jesus healed every sickness and every person that came to Him.
[23] Jesus went throughout all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all sorts of diseases among the people. [24] His fame went throughout all Syria. And they brought to Him all sick people who were taken with various diseases and tormented with pain, those who were possessed with demons, those who had seizures, and those who had paralysis, and He healed them. [25] Great crowds followed Him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan. —Matthew 4:23-25 MEV
[34] When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. [35] And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word to all the surrounding country and brought to Him all who were sick, [36] and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. —Matthew 14:34-36 MEV
[29] Jesus departed from there, and passed by the Sea of Galilee, and went up on a mountain and sat down there. [30] Great crowds came to Him, having with them those who were lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and placed them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them, [31] so that the crowds wondered when they saw the mute speak, the maimed made whole, the lame walk, and the blind see. And they glorified the God of Israel. —Matthew 15:29-31 MEV
FACT #2: Jesus took away all sickness and disease carried it to the cross.
[16] When the evening came, they brought to Him many who were possessed with demons. And He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed all who were sick, [17] to fulfill what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” —Matthew 8:16-17 MEV
[3] He was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows* and acquainted with grief*. And we hid, as it were, our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not esteem him. [4] Surely he has borne our grief * (“choili”—sickness, disease) and carried our sorrows* (“machob”—physical pain); Yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. [5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed. —Isaiah 53:4-5 MEV
Jesus gave the ordinance of Holy Communion that we may rehearse what Jesus did for us on the cross. Through the blood we have the remission of sins and through His broken body we have physical and emotional healing. Every time you receive communion celebrate the fact that Jesus’ death on the cross paid for it all—forgiveness of sin and healing for your body.
FACT #3: Jesus is filled with compassion and mercy toward the sick!
[35] Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. [36] But when He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they fainted and were scattered, like sheep without a shepherd. [37] Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. [38] Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will send out laborers into His harvest.” —Matthew 9:35-38 MEV
[30] There, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” [31] The crowd rebuked them, that they should be silent. But they cried out even more, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” [32] Jesus stood still and called them, saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” [33] They said to Him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” [34] So Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him. —Matthew 20:30-34 MEV
The crowning attribute of our Lord Jesus is His compassion and mercy that releases His power to those in need of healing. The Psalmist declared in Psalm 145:8-9, “The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion (merciful); slow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” This is the Lord’s disposition toward the sick.
FACT #4: Jesus gave us authority over all sickness and disease.
[1] He called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. [7] As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ [8] Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. —Matthew 10:1,7-8 MEV
