HEALING IN THE OLD COVENANT
Many people make assumptions about what God will do for them. They may rely on man’s traditions, human reason, or personal experiences, but God has revealed His will by establishing a covenant with His people. God is seen through the covenants He initiated as our Creator and Redeemer. When God established His covenant with Abram He revealed Himself as Almighty God (El Shaddai, God our Creator). When God established His covenant with a nation of oppressed Jewish slaves He revealed Himself as the Lord (Jehovah, God our Redeemer).
Think about the story of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. God established His Healing Covenant with them through a covenant meal on the eve of their deliverance. After crossing the Red Sea and traveling three days with no water, the children of Israel came to the waters of Marah. When they arrived they drank of the bitter waters of Marah and became sick. God told Moses to place a tree in the water to make the water clean and suitable for drinking. That is a beautiful picture of the cross of Jesus Christ bringing healing to our bitter experience of sickness and disease.
Remember the Lord, Jehovah means redeemer. To redeem means to regain the possession of something lost in exchange for payment. That is what the Lord did for Israel. Israel’s redeemer promised healing, the restoration of health and long life…
“If you listen carefully to the voice of the lord your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.“
“Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span”
No one in their right mind wants to be sick! We were created with a natural desire to be well. Our bodies were created with natural healing properties. God created us to be well! Sickness & death came as a result of the curse of man’s sin but God is rich in His mercy and brought redemption through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ. Take God’s promises of healing by faith, it belongs to you today!
HEALING IN THE NEW COVENANT
The Bible says that God has spoken in these last days through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 6:38, “I am come to do My Father’s will!”
Acts 10:38 sums up the ministry of Jesus, How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Jesus boldly declared His will. He announced at the start of His ministry His divine purpose by quoting Isaiah 61:1 saying, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
The four Gospels record Jesus healing ministry. Matthew 9:35 says, Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Jesus made it perfectly clear when the leper asked Him about His will to heal. The scripture says, Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
When Jesus was crucified on the cross He not only took our sins to the cross but every sickness and disease! Matthew 8:17 says, That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
1 Peter 2:24 also declares the same thing, Jesus paid the price for forgiveness and healing, He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness. “By His wounds you were healed.”
Thank God that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of sickness and with His stripes we are healed!We can stand upon His healing promises to receive healing for any sickness or disease we might be facing!
