What does faith look like?

And not being weak in faith, he (Abraham) did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.—Romans 4:19-21

To understand what God pleasing faith looks like just take a look at the life of the Patriarch Abraham. He is called the Father of the Faith. His faith pleased God and brought him into a place of righteousness with God. He was called the friend of God. He was highly favored.

God promised Abraham that He would be the Father of many Nations. For both him and his wife Sarah having children was impossible. Yet Abraham simply believed that what God promised He was able to bring it to pass no matter what the obstacle or impossibility. This is what truly pleases God, when you take Him at His Word no matter what the impossibility is in your life.

What made Abraham strong in his faith? He continued to meditate on what God said. “Your seed will be like the stars of heaven, like the sand of the sea!” I can envision Abraham looking up at the stars of Heaven at night and hearing those words and being strengthened in His faith. Abraham gave praise to God for His promise on a continual basis for many years before his son Isaac was born.

Does your faith look like Abraham’s? Follow his example. Meditate on the promise, give God the praise, be fully persuaded by the promise of God in the face of impossibility and you will see God move in your life.
